I have a macbook fairly recent model, and I decided to do a fresh install of Leopard (10.5) but now all my top keys (F1-F12) are all out of order, I know i can assign secondary functions to them, but their main functions don't work properly, for example my mute, lower volume and raise volume keys are assigned to widgets, and expose. I tried searching this but turned up with no luck any help would be appreciated. :)

Maybe your Hotkey checkmark was changed. Try holding fn and hitting them. If they work when holding fn, go into the keyboard settings and uncheck "Use all f1, f2... keys as standard function keys"
