Sorry I tried searching but could not figure out exactly what I was looking for...

On to the question: I would like my Hotmail account to be integrated into my Mail Application. I was wondering if anyone could walk me through the details and the information I need to put in. For example: incoming mail server

I'm sure the hotmail website gives you details for doing it. Incidentally, are you using a free account, or a paid for one? Because hotmail have stopped you from using 3rd party email clients with the free accounts as I found out when I tried using outlook or Mail. :(

Free one. And I looked on the website but it only talked about doing it in outlook and was talking about HTTP and not any of the options Mail gave you

Oh yeah...I *think* there's a plug-in of some sort you need, but if you have a free email account it won't work anyway, they mean all 3rd party email clients, not just outlook.

This is incorrect...I browse my free hotmail using Apple Mail just fine. Download the httpmail plugin and follow the instructions to install it.

There is also another plugin called OMiC that makes Outlook attachments appear correctly in Apple Mail. If you receive an attachment from an Outlook user that says winmail.dat it is really an attachment that won't normally show up in Apple mail but works after installing the plugin.

httpmail plugin

OMiC

Goodluck

Oh sweet alright thanks alot for all your guys help!!
Alright Perfect. Everything worked perfectly!! Thanks so much! But isn't there a free app or something so that I can have the second program with out having to buy it? It is pretty annoying that it is gonna keep popping up...

I installed both thingies, but have two problems:
1. I don't know how to import e-mail from my Hotmail account into Mail.
2. There's an exclamation mark next to the inbox symbol, and when I click it I get this: Could not connect to 'httpmail-konto'. Access to Hotmail via Outlook and Outlook Express now requires a sunscription. Please sign up at http://join.msn.com/general/Email.

For incoming server I used this http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp

Perhaps that may help. I have no clue though. I just didn't get any problems so

I'm not sure. My incoming server is hotmail.com and my outgoing one is services.msn.com. I have had my hotmail account since 1999 so maybe that is the difference but I don't have any problems viewing emails with Apple mail at all.

It is a pain that OMiC isn't free but the registration pop-up only appears when you first open Apple Mail so i just ignore it as I keep Apple mail running all the time anyway.

I would actually recommend changing over to gmail if you aren't attached to hotmail. It is much better overall and works flawlessly with Apple Mail without a plugin...

That is the difference, the old free email accounts seem to work fine, but after a certain date (not sure when, only noticed when i made myself a new account) they've restricted it. :(

I started my account when I was around 8ish and I am 20 now (21 in may) so... not exactly sure how long ago that was but I would really just try to the incoming server I told you...

I wouldn't mind getting a Google Email account but since I have been with this account for so long it is where I am known best. Perhaps one day I will switch it over, but I find easiest to just keep this one for now...

need help getting HTTPMail plugin to work

I have a paid hotmal account, but am having trouble getting httpmail plugin to work. Everytime I try and put the outgoing server to none, it reverts back to some server which does not work. Yes, I save changes after turning it to none. Help!

didn't work for me

i tried syncing my hotmail with my mail.app, and it doesn't truly work. izymail works for getting my mail into my inbox, but sending mail is a totally diffrent matter, as it can't. and btw, i've had the account for about a decade, so it's an older one.

i'm actually going to get a gmail account tomorrow for new years, as hotmail just deleted some of my messages for no reason.

i'll keep the hotmail address active for at least a few months, but i'm hoping to dump it by next new years and get everyone on the gmail account by then.
