I'm running OSX 10.3.9 on a 2004 Titanium Powerbook. In the last couple of days, Hotmail cannot be accessed using Safari (at login, Safari gets locked into a bunch of redirects and fails.) I've tried to set up MacFreepop to use with Mail but I simply can't get it to work at all. I've done all the updates available from MacFreepop. I've set up a Mail Account as follows:
Account Information Window:
Account Type: POP
Description: Windows Live Hotmail
Email Address: chrisjarrett19@hotmail.com
Full Name: Christopher J Jarrett
Incoming Mail Server: localhost
User Name: chrisjarrett19@hotmail.com
Password: xxxxxxxx
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com

Advanced Mail Preferences Window:
Enable this account is checked.
Include when automatically checking for new mail is checked.
Port 2000
Authentication: Password

Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Try hitting the Reload button in Safari. That's all I had to do in order to get to Windows Live.

Every time I hit the reload button, I get the same "too many re-direct" problems. The only way I can use my Hotmail account is to access it through Firefox.

Yeah i occasionally get this problem, but usually find it sorts itself out after a few hours.

hotmail on Safari a problem

Hi,

New to this site, but I found it because I've been experiencing problems today accessing my hotmail address from Safari. I can still access it from Firefox, but was wondering if someone can help me figure out why Safari is suddenly a problem. Has Mac, Inc., decided to no longer support Hotmail? I've already discovered other sites that I can't access from Safari, yet can with Firefox, such as Zillow.Com, etc. Frankly the mail function with my Mac is too much of a problem to use, so I would prefer continuing to use Hotmail. Thanks.

That suddenly started happening to me too on my G5 PowerMac. I downloaded the new (beta) Safari 3 and still no luck. I can't access Hotmail via Firefox either (I get a similar redirection problem message). everything was working fine with the old Hotmail, but as soon as they switched to Windows Live, I got shut out. I have an msn.com account, so can retreive e-mail through Entouage, but to delete messages, you have to go to Hotmail... Reloading, rejecting cookies - nothing works. Anyone any other ideas?

Help with Hotmail redirect?

Like many of the users here, I have tried on Safari and Firefox to load hotmail, but get the redirect message. I have tried reloading, emptying cache, etc. Does Apple or Microsoft have ANYTHING to say on this to help out users? Can anyone help this non-techie to get into hotmail on my MAC? OR does anyone have an email address or phone number for human customer service for this?
Thanks

No Hotmail with Safari OR FireFox

I'm experiencing the same problem as the latest (above) posters.

Tried different security settings and cookies off/on, deleted, nothing works.

I really hate web-based email. Note: if you use Verizon's National Access you only have access to the Internet, which is not the same as having an Internet SERVICE provider (ISP) which would include an email account. Now that I've used just Hotmail or Yahoo (both web based) I'm not very happy. There's this strange need for communication with their mail servers, whenever (for instance) you move an email to another folder, or delete, or anything. I understand why, just don't like that way of doing things (slow and too dependent on connectivity).

Great, I just thought of something; when Hotmail does it's annoying Junkmail verification you MUST log in to the Hotmail website. So, I might just be getting dumped from Hotmail, and to think I paid for it!!!! Getting mad...

So, may now this is my excuse to drop Hotmail and just open a Mac account.

Any comments?

Worked for me

I just found the answer on the Apple Support Discussions site:

The redirects issue can be worked around by accessing hotmail AFTER logging in to my.msn.com

I tried it and it works. It's an annoying extra step, but better that not getting your e-mail at all...

Kim1

Thanks it works for me too! Actually I saved the successful link to my bookmarks and as my homepage and have eliminated the need to work-around, so far.

Ahhhh, I spoke too soon, still have to do a little working around to get there. What a pain...

I still want my own damn email account. LOL

Good luck all
