Hotmail problems/ Safari and Firefox

Ive just got a new macbook and Safari was working fine with Hotmail but suddenly it stopped being able to send or delete emails; it opens pages fine but when you click 'send' the loading bar appears partially but doesn't move any further. I downloaded Firefox and it does the same. Anyone got any solutions to this? Tks
