Hi!
I have an internet connexion which is a hotspot. I have my firewall turned on with no 'exceptions'.
1. Present problem: The airport indicator says I am receiving a good strong signal yet I cannot connect to the internet. Nothing loads.
2. But more commonly, I will be connected with apparently a good (at times a strong signal but usually low to medium strong) signal and I lose my connection suddenly - and quite often. I turn airport off and try again and it works fine again!
The speed is always pretty slow.
I've just used iStumbler which identifies that the open network (hotspot) vendor called Motorola has 3 'Motorola networks' all coming from the different vendor addresses - and my connexion which is the the same vendor address as the Cablevision (major cable provider in Mexico City) is the strongest signal of all the providers.
Who can these other identical vendors be and why are there 3 with the same name with varying signal strengths?
I live in a condominium at the bottom where there are another 20 or so apartments. Can nearby neighbours' cause interruption to my reception? I haven't seen evidence of any of the neighbours joining 'my' network - if such a thing exists!
Can anyone please give me some explanation of this situation or set up - and background advice on how internet hotspots work?
Many thanks
Gordon
