for those of you who already have hotspot enabled in your phone, how does it work? you turn on the hotspot on the phone and your other device can connect to it, right? can you set a password protection so others can't connect? do you have to touch your phone once in a while to prevent it from sleeping while the hotspot is on?

You turn on Personal Hotspot, with WPA password set if you choose. Then on any other wifi enabled device it shows up like a wifi hotspot or router. The iPhone can sleep while personal hotspot is on.

does it use a lot of battery power if you leave the hotspot on all the time? or is it better to turn it off after using it?

If your phone is jailbroken, and you use hotspot. Does AT&T charge you for the data you use? I'm confused, I have the unlimited data plan for my iPhone 4, so how would that work? Anybody know?

It would be wise to turn the hotspot off because it will still suck some battery while broadcasting, and even more while data is being transferred.

If you're jailbroken and using mywi as your hotspot, you're fine. But if you use ATT's tethering plan, you have to pay additional.

Yeah, I don't wanna pay more to use the AT&T plan because I don't wanna loose my unlimited data. Thinking about jailbreaking once 4.3 comes out.

I use Rogers network and currently tethering is free if you have 1gb and up data plan. I have 6gb data plan. I'm not sure if Rogers will change their tethering policy once the iOS 4.3 is out.

Rogers (and all others in Canada) confirmed that you can use mobile hotspot on 4.3. Rogers said same story, if you have plan with 1GB or more you can use it with no additional charge.

do you have a link to confirm this?

this will be nice to know. this means i can just get a wifi model iPad and tether with my iPhone4 via personal hotspot. :D

OK... so the iphone can broadcast personal hotspot even in sleep. Does it make the iphone hot using the personal hotspot while in sleep?
