I have been using Hotspot Shield for a few years now, but the most recent update is for some reason causing it to automatically launch at startup (it has the Hotspot Shield logo in the menu bar).

I have tried looking at the the Startup Items list in System Preferences and looking at the preferences within the application itself. I cannot seem to figure out how to prevent it from launching automatically.

Does anyone know?

Hotspot Shield Launches Automatically at Startup

I have the same problem and couldn't find a solution in the usual places...

To stop it, drag it to you dock and right click and you will see the option for open at login, uncheck it and thats it

doesn't work for me. everytime i restart it is back, unchecking login at start is rechecked!
I also deleted the login item and startup folder entry

I agree. I am using LION and cannot shut down the shield.:(

Delete the App then, and do a reinstall if you really need it.

Did you actually try this before posting???

It doesn't work...On to another forum.:(

Select 'Run at Login' from the drop down menu. Then deselect it. That should do it.

Otherwise you have to manually remove it from Login Items every time:

System Preferences - > Accounts - > Login Items
