So recently my mbp has started getting really hot towards the top left of the keyboard which it hasnt done before. I've started using caffeine which runs constantly in the background, could this make such a difference?

On a side note I never turn my Macbook off, just close it when i'm not using it, could this cause any problems in the future, should I shut it down?

Thanks

The top left of your keyboard is right above the CPU.
And sleeping will not harm your computer.

Have you checked Activity Monitor > Show All Processes and sort by CPU-usage to see which process takes up CPU cycles?

Do you have a Lexmark printer?

If so, those two processes belong to that.

Have you updated the Lexmark drivers yet?

Some printer drivers drive the CPU crazy because of their faulty design.

You could also try to Quit the Lexmark process via Activity Monitor and see if that helps.

Also take a look at System Preferences > Accounts > Your account > Login/Startup items and see if Lexmark is listed there.

Remove it by clicking the "minus" button.

I have an Epson and I tried installing the software the other day but it wont work, so I guess i'll just get rid of them and see if its any better.
Thanks :)
