Hoverclicking with the iMac

For some reason the iMac's trackpad and mouse have been acting pretty funny. A number of things have been happening but one thing that sticks out is that using both the mouse and trackpad there is some sort of 'hoverclicking' going on. If I move the arrow over a link or file it will select and open it even if I don't actually click it. I've unclicked everything in the trackpad preferences and fooled around with the settings with nothing changing.
