According to my Apple Watch I’ve a resting heart rate of an athlete. I used to have really good stamina when I was younger but I barely exercise now.

Do you feel it’s accurate?

What is your resting heart rate? Mine is slightly lower and I too used to exercise a lot (less now).

I assume that you are referring to the resting rate as calculated by the revised Heart app that came with iOS 11 as calculated by AW 3. It appears to be simply the average of the lowest rates monitored during the day. I do not know if the AW uses the accellerometer to determine activity or not. I'm 79 and no athlete and mine is low also - 56 yesterday. I can attest to the general accuracy of the AW heart rates. I take my wrist pulse occasionally and also use a pulse oximeter. The AW is always spot on. However, Apple states that there may be occasional high or low rates which will or may be inaccurate. I have encountered this with high rates. I will be resting comfortably in my recliner and the app will say my pulse is 110 for a single reading. Prior and subsequent readings are within normal range. I ignore these high readings.

I have AW3 with Heart Watch running on it as well as Kardia (I have the AliveCor device on the band for a heart arrhythmia I had some months ago). Heart Watch keeps reporting my heart rate as between 45 and 49. I start up Kardia immediately and it tells me my heart rate is in the 60s. It's not going to jump THAT much in the few seconds between notification and verifying.

I would leave Kardia running but it puts the watch in "workout mode" which drains the battery something fierce. I would love to sleep with that running just to see what my heart is doing while I'm asleep but the battery wouldn't last the night.

My resting heart rate has averaged in the 40's consistently over the last two months, and in that time I have greatly increased my activity. Below are my metrics over the last five months with June and July being very active for me.

March: 54
April: 55
May: 59
June: 51
July: 46

Some days, like today, I get a resting heart rate average of 42. All this to say I've been getting consistently lower readings since my activity has increased, which is typical. If you aren't active and getting readings below 50bpm, then I'd see a doctor.

Is the app you are using?
