Hi, I tried a few M4 Mini but they all have this problem even I use the Apple trackpad and the Magic Keyboard. Sometimes it takes about 6 seconds or longer to get these devices connected during restart or wake from sleep. It is really annoying.

If you have this on multiple devices I guess you have your answer. Wired devices would be your workaround if the little wait is too much.

Can't say I've tested this much, but will endeavor to ... and report back

Being a desktop, and with all the issues the Mini's have had over the years with this issue, I personally used wired peripherals

I have the M4 Pro and the latest Magic Keyboard and the Magic Mouse…… zero issues waking from sleep or after a restart. I can literally click the mouse to wake the computer, and immediately start typing on the Magic Keyboard to put in my password. Maybe the trackpad adds some issues?

No problems here. OP, I'd guess that you have either (a) signal degradation from where the Mac is and what's around it or (b) Bluetooth interference, likely from USB 3.0 devices connected to the Mac.

Works perfectly. Been using a Magic Keyboard with an M1 Mini for years, now switched to an M4 Mini for a few weeks. Seamless transition.

I only have a Magic Keyboard and trackpad connected to the Mini. They are right in front of it. Same issue when I had Mini M2 and M2 Pro.

So, likely, the signal attenuation and/or interference was present on the M2 also. Try unplugging any USB devices, see if the issue goes away. If it does, try plugging in one at a time until you figure out the culprit and/or move them to a different port / different location until the issue is resolved. This is a common problem, not just with Macs.

If the issue persists with no USB devices connected - it's the desk attenuating the signal. Harder to fix but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ c'est la vie

Strangely, for my 3rd party keyboard, yes it takes a few seconds sometimes, but my Razer mouse is slightly faster to connect.

However, I have no problem when I connect the new magic keyboard and magic trackpad via bluetooth, instant connection from sleep.

I don’t have usb device connected to the Mini M4. I only have a hdmi cable to connect to a display and Apple’s touchpad as well as magic keyboard connected via wifi. Nothing else.

Why it takes a few seconds sometimes?

I don’t seem to have luck with the Mini series.

My Lightning versions have been trouble free. The USBc one I bought recently for my Macbook Pro M4 Pro doesn't always connect right away. But otherwise it's usually no issue.
(lol, yes I'm aware the macbook has a trackpad, I use this mostly as a stationary computer hooked up to my home theatre avr and 65" TV is my primary monitor. And I preferred having external peripherals. Mainly to keep the macbook keys pristine as well.)

Both my trackpad and magic keyboard are Lightning version.

Those of you who can use the two devices instantly without waiting for a few seconds, do you use HDMI to connect to an external display? As I recall, a M2 Pro Mini user found that his HDMI cable caused interference.

No issues with the MX Keys keyboard or Apple trackpad. My old M1 Mac Mini was trouble-free too.

I have never updated the firmware of the Magic Keyboard and the Trackpad 2. Is it better to do it?

I have the current USB-C Magic Keyboard, purchased three weeks ago, no touch ID, no numeric keypad (wanted the cheapest one, it's a server!) No problem connecting to the m4 Mini with an HDMI display. There's also gigabit ethernet and a USB SSD plugged into the Mini, which is inside a closed wooden cabinet under my audio amplifier.

Mine is the keyboard and apple mouse with the lightning connector. So far not bluetooth connectivity issues.

I checked the firmware version. Magic Keyboard with Touch ID is 2.0.6 while Magic Trackpad is 3.1.1

Mine is 3.1.4 for both magic keyboard with touch ID and magic trackpad though :)

The issue I have with the magic trackpad (last version) and an older keyboard is that when my girlfriend calls me using WhatsApp my mouse acts erratically and my keyboard stops working.

She just called and it's unworkable, not the girlfriend...haha.
My old 2012 Mac Mini had issues in the beginning but I shielded it and had few problems thereafter, it too had troubles
with the mouse and Keyboard, I know USB was the problem back then, I will try to unplug all USB cables next time she calls.
