How big is the cache on the standard 320GB HD?

8mb, 16mb or 32mb?

I ask because I plan on using the basic hard drive for the OS and all my apps Logic Studio , Final Cut Studio and After Effects.
If it's 8mb will that suffice? Or do you think it would be worth upgrading to one with 32mb cache?

I haven't been able to find it on Apple's site.

My other HDs will be 2x500gb Barracudas in RAID0 and a 1tb Barracuda for time machine

It will be 8MB or 16MB, as I do not know of a consumer 320GB unit with 32MB.

A quick search of Newegg shows six total models with 16GB from Seagate, WD and Hitachi vs. two models with 8GB (1 each from WD and Seagate).

So chances are 16GB is more likely, but it may very well be the luck of the draw depending on what was available for Apple to buy when they needed it.

Manufacturers can vary. Seagate, Western Digital, Hitachi and Maxtor have been used by Apple in the past and just because someone gets say a Seagate 500GB drive from them doesn't mean the next buyer will.
