I'm using an early 2012 non retina 15" MacBook Pro. It's the base model available at that time. I have upgraded the RAM to 16gb but that's all i've done. It's got a 500GB sata drive, etc.

It still runs "okay" but I'm starting to need faster render times (in After Effects and Premier Pro with larger jobs I'm doing) and would love just better/faster performance in general.

Would one of today's brand new 15" MacBook Pro's be a big, noticeable upgrade? I don't want to drop $2,700 today (after upgrades) if a model will just come out next spring or something with all the new redesigns they added to the MacBook.

Thanks for any info.

Before dropping thousands on a new computer, I recommend you replace your HDD with a SSD and see what your performance is like. You may find it more than satisfies your needs. While CPU/GPU would not be on par with a newer MBP, it's doubtful you're maxing out what you have on a regular basis.
