I have a TV (smart) connected HDMI to USB-C on the back. When I go to say, movie sites and I want to watch one, I play it through that way and of course I can't surf at the same time if I wanted to, effectively locking out the iMac from doing anything else because the TV mirrors what's on the iMac screen.

There must be a way and yes, I went to Setting>Displays and that's where I'm lost. I don't have apple TV if that matters. Thanks.

Thanks! I'm encountering a little bit of trouble though. I use Chrome as my browser which I can manage to mirror to the TV, and separately open a new window for cruising purposes. It doesn't seem to work with movies (even YouTube) which was my goal. The mouse is set up to transition to the TV screen alright, but it won't click on anything on the extended screen (TV of course) because everything is frozen as if a screenshot. If I go to Mission Control to go to my "cruising window" I lose my tube site's mirroring and have to start over the process. Also if I maximize the tube sites window I lose it again.

Got it to work...in Safari. Does not work in Chrome, that was the hang up.
