How can I access my PC itunes library from my macbook?

I've got over 3000 songs on my desktop PC iTunes library that I would like to access on my macbook.

I've tried choosing the library by pressing OPT when opening iTunes on my macbook but although I can see the iTunes folder on my PC I can't select iTunesLibrary.itl as it is greyed out.

Any suggestions?

If you are just trying to play the music have iTunes running on the PC with sharing turned on.

(PC) iTunes --> Preferences --> Sharing --> Share my library on my local network
(MacBook) iTunes --> Preferences --> Sharing --> Look for shared libraries
