How can I add 2 Apple gift cards to the Apple Store iPhone app?

I'm sitting on 2 gift cards that I'd like to use to buy the upcoming new iPad instead of paying with my credit card. The app doesn't appear to let me apply the cards to my account. Anyone know how I can do this?
