How can I automate video file conversion? Automator, or AppleScript?

I would like to be able to automate the process of taking a folder full of AVI files, opening each one in MPEG Streamclip and then re-saving it as a MOV (so just changing the file wrapper, not changing the codec or anything like that).

Can I do that with Automator (which I've never used) or would I have to write something in AppleScript (which I've also never used)?
