I can easily change the icon of my HD, or any other application using CandyBar or LiteIcon but these prgrams do not allow me to change standard folders and that's mainly what I want to change.

CandyBar & LiteIcon even allow me to change the "applications" folder, "Documents" and "Downloads", etc... but I havent had any luck with the cliche standard blue folders.

Help?

I've tried right clicking on the folder, going into Info and dragging either an incs, png, icon etc...with no avail.

I haven't installed Candybar yet in SL, but in Leopard it was possible to change the default system folders and such somewhere in Candybar. Check Folder icons > Generic, as shown in the screenshot below. Does that work?

Presumably you'd replace /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/GenericFolderIcon.icns

Yeah that would work; it has worked but I just would like to change only one folder.

I have a folder called "Current Project Support" which normally rested right underneath the Mac HD icon on the desktop but since getting SL I've been wanting to move it into the right side of the dock, with its own unique icon. I'd like to still have the blue standard folders overall OS X, just not for this specific "Current Project Support" folder.

I don't get it. Won't this special folder still work if it's not colored differently? Is it that important that this folder look different from all the others?

The crap some of you people bog down on.

Ah I see. This should work:

1. Get Info on the new icon you'd like to use
2. Get Info on the folder which icon you want to change
3. Click the icon in the left top of the Get Info window of step 1 (icon) and copy with CMD+C
4. Click the icon in the left top of the Get Info window of step 2 (folder) and paste with CMD+V

Then drag the folder with its new icon to your dock, and there it is.

That worked. Perfectly.

Thank you.

So, this doesn't seem to work with an icon that is "icns", which is the icon i'm trying to get. I've tried to do exactly what you've mentioned but no luck. This is really bugging me now.

Maybe this will help: http://www.mackb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/mac-apps/14281/How-to-use-icns-icon-files

I was just able to copy and paste icons from any of the three file types
(.png, .ico, and .icns) by opening them in Preview, using Select All,
then copying and pasting into Get Info.

Another Preview trick: you can copy any icon from the Get Info window, then open up Preview and go to File > New from Clipboard. This will show the icon in various formats, including transparency. I'm guessing copying the icon from there into the Get Info window of something else will work as well.
