iPod how can i change the iPods GUI?

I used a program called AlterPod to edit images, like the Do Not Disconnect logo on my 3G iPod. i tried the same program on my current iPod (sig), and it just freezes up. Does anyone know a program which allows me to change images on my iPod?

Thanks for the links, but i was looking for something which could modify the existing OS, not have a completely new OS. alterPod allowed you to modify images such as the battery status icon.
