Hello,

I am trying to use my sons mac book to connect to an Apple Cinema I have.

Could you please direct me to what type of connection I will need and what ports I need to use.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Jay

If you have a white macbook you can't as far as i know but if the macbook has a mini displayport the correct cables will be attached to the monitor

The mac book I have is black. Not sure if it makes a difference.

What kind of cable is needed for connection?

Jay

Thank you for your respond.

My Cinema Display is one of the first ones came out (silver with two clear plastic feet). when I measure diagonally it is 22", horizontally 18.5

So, to make things clear, your Apple Cinema Display is the old style "ADC" style connector, i.e. it has only one cable/connection that carries the video, USB, and power. My guess is that you would need to buy one of those expensive ADC to DVI adapters (not sure they are still available) PLUS a DVI to MiniDisplay Port adapter.

No, he has a plastic MacBook.

He needs the ADC-DVI and the DVI-mini DVI adapter.

Not sure what I need, but my Cinema Display has one thick cable coming out from the back and after a ring it splits to three outputs. One is a USB, the other is power via power adapter and the third one is a 17 and a flat pin connector.

Which connection do I need? is it still Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter????

Here is Apple Cinema display specs:
LCD display
Resolution: 1600x1024
Depth: 23 bit color

That clears it up. You have an aluminum cinema display. Therefore, you need the mini-DVI connector.
