How can I connect my new macbook to my old macbook, so that my mouse scrolls over?

HI!

ok, i've seen it before, so i know it works;
how can i set up my two macbooks, so that i can scroll with one mouse on both screens and on top of that access either macbooks files?

the thing is though that i actually can't remember if it was a screen and a macbook that was shared or two macbooks...

i called apple advice, who confirmed that it should work somehow, but he didn't know how.

please help.
