How can this be done I tried QuickTime but won't open all the files or read them and VLC don't offer the option.

Do you have Perian installed?

use perian, then if you want to convert iSquint if you can get hold of it still. Otherwise, quicktime pro or ffmpegX.

I'm sure there are several other tools out there, but thats what i'd use

If you've got QT Pro then you can still get iSquint here if you want to go that route (as SailorTom suggests):

You won't need perian using iSquint and QT Pro.

Drop the FLV file into iSquint, set the video to something low in the advanced tab, and also put the audio settings up as high as you like (320kbps, and orginal sample rate and stereo/mono). Convert.

In QT Pro export the audio from the file you just made in iSquint.
