How can I copy over HD contents?

My father has been hospitalized and would like to have access to his computer files and email during his recovery. I have a spare G4 iBook running 10.4 and would like to clear the HD and copy over the entire contents from his old 500mhz G3 iMac for him to use. Can anybody walk me through this procedure? I've done this before when setting up a new computer but I'm not sure how to do it without the OS set-up prompts. Thanks for all your help.

First off, to clear the HD on the iBook, simply reinstall 10.4 and use the option for a new install.

Then you can follow this tutorial for Apple's Migration Assistant.
