How can I do a clean install of Leopard but retain my emails

Mail.app in Tiger is acting up. I have 5000 + emails I need to access at work. I have also noticed that Tiger seems to be missing a few apps and acts strangely on occasion. If this was my home machine and not works I would of done a clean install ages ago. Anyhoo I have tried to fix the problem in Mail to no avail and because of the other problems I am contemplating upgrading the entire studio to Leopard.

Because of the flakiness of the current Tiger install I want to do a clean install of Leopard but I need to be able to access the old emails we currently have in mail.app. My question is...

How can I do a clean install of Leopard but retain my emails (POP)?
