Hi,

THanks for clicking on my post.

I want to know how can I found out if a MacBook Pro is New or refurbished??? there is this seller who is selling me a laptop saying its Brand new, I just want to make sure its new and not refurbished?

How can I find out?

If it's brand new it will come in a sealed black box with some pictures of a MBP on the outside, refurbs come in plain brown boxes. As well, Apple alters a refurb's serial number to reflect that it was refurbished, but I'm not sure of the pattern so I can't say where to look.

Thanks fo ryour replies.

Well, I have the serial numebr to the machine?? who can I call to find this out?? U see the guy has it in a Mac box not a brown/white box?? also, he has it opened, so tehre is no way of getting to know that!!

Is there no way or place I can call and give them the serial number and find out the history of the machine?? ie if its refurbished or not?? I mean I called APple care, but they tell me when the warranty expires and thats pretty much it??

Any help would be greatly appreciated

regards

You can check here on Apple's website to check the purchase date, warranty, and such.

Thanks for your reply.

Well, I checked it there, this is what it gives me?

Our records indicate that your product is covered under Apple's Limited Warranty which is estimated to expire on May 08, 2009.

Your product is not eligible for complimentary phone support.

I see refurbished as a better selling point, because of the more vigorous checking, so less likely to have faults.

Hmmm interesting thought!!!

But still, how can I find out if its refurbished or not???

Thanks

WHat number at Apple?

is it really that hard? if you can come on macrumors to create an account and post, can't you do the simple task of going to apple's website and finding out their support info? its not too difficult...

They say they do not have that info???

Can it be refurbished by someone else??? another reseller??

It's 5 months old... it's at worst lightly used, at best it's a 5 month old system that is new-in-box (NIB). I doubt it's a refurb (i.e. he bought a refurb from the Apple store and then wrapped it up in a box from a new one).

Either way, it's got less than a year warranty on it. I would play less in the open market than for a new one, and less than what the same one would cost through the Apple Refurb store.

Do you have pictures? Is the boxed opened? If you could post a link for us to check out, it'd be cool too.

see, told ya you cant really find out, who is the seller? is it someone on craigslist or ebay, someone you know, or what?

call in, to check,

checking online urself, is useless,,

cuz they don't say anything about refurbish at applecare.
