Hi
I have a 16gb iPad 4 and can't upgrade to iOS 8 from 7 because i only have 4.5gb of space - according to iOS i need 7gb of storage. I don't have a lot of large apps or music, so how can i find out what is taking up all that space so I can delete it - or is there a workaround?
Thanks in advance!

How can i find out what is taking up storage on my iPad?

The workaround is to upgrade via iTunes.

To see what's taking up space, Settings-> General->Usage->Storage
