I've been trying to figure this out for a while. Does anybody know what setting controls the size of icons in the file browse dialog boxes (see attached icture)?

It's been messed up every since Apple replaced my logic board. I've sized all the icons in Finder using folder settings to the right size, but for some reason the size in these dialog boxes stay large. A guy at the genuis bar couldn't even figure it out.

They should be like that.

Although the default view is Column View for things like that.

Well, what's odd is when I first got my MBP and reset the finder window to use smaller icons, those file browser dialogs picked up the setting and showed smaller icons as well. For some reason, it all broke after the repair (which makes no sense to me) and resetting icon sizes in finder doesn't seem to affect it.

With the window open

Menubar View- Show View Options.

There should be a choice of icon size.

EDIT: In Leopard there's a slider to choose the size

Is there some way to do that in a dialog box?

That's exactly what I can do in Finder to set the icon sizes appropriately. The problem is, even when I set a size to be the default, the icon sizes in the Open Dialog remain large. Maybe I'm losing it, but I distinctly remember when I first got it that when I set my default icon size in a Finder window, it carried over to dialog boxes.

this ability was removed in Lion

Prior to Lion (10.7), one could change icon size in a File-Open dialog by Option-clicking (or was it just click and hold?) the Icon View button, and choosing a different icon size.

Unfortunately, since Lion's release, that was removed. I have not yet found a way to resize icons in a File-Open dialog since, not in 10.8 or 10.9, either.

Not good, Apple. Not good....
