How can I get back my .vol folder on HD?

I had put an important folder containing photos for my SO's surprise birthday gift (she sometimes uses my macbook) and made it hidden in the .vol folder for extra secrecy and I just recently upgraded my Mac to Mountain Lion. Now the folder is gone! Hours of work down the drain! Any possibility of getting it back??

Does it show up enabling Finder to show hidden files?

To find out, where that folder might be, due to its size probably, you can use the following free applications:

• DiskInventory X
• OmniDiskSweeper
• JDisk Report
• GrandPerspective
