How can i get my mac to recognize an iPhone backup i saved into USB?

So, i sold my iphone and macbook a few months ago, but saved the backup into a USB stick.

Now i have a new macbook and new iphone. I've transfered the iphone backup file into the location where itunes keeps it, but how can i get itunes to recognize the old backup to sync into my new iphone?
