I'm an existing iPhone user. I'd like to get a white 16GB iPhone. I have the money, all is hunky-dory. But all my local O2 stores have sold out. Completely. Not a chance of me getting one. I also hear they won't even stock white iPhones.

I will be able to pop into Regent Street tonight, could pick up an iPhone there but I hear you can't upgrade at the Apple Store if you are an existing customer.

So here's what I'm thinking:
What are the chances of me now going and buying the iPhone from the Apple store and activating it on a new contract, then asking O2 to cancel my old contract like they would have done anyway if I had bought through the O2 store. Then I'd have to get my old number transferred over and I'm done.

Its a bit more effort to go through than just buying it at the O2 store but with current stock levels at O2, I think this will be a faster option.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this? Would that work?
