How can I get the songs I purchased on my old computer from iTunes?

I no longer have the files but was wonder if there was a way I can retrieve them off iTunes. Thanks for your help!

I've not done it but I thought if you enter your apple ID and then click on "Check for Purchases" from the store menu option you can retrieve your music. No?

Thats's for songs you bought but haven't downloaded yet.

I heard before that Apple is really generous. If you tell them you were stupid enough to delete your music, they let you re-download the purchased songs. But that's a once-in-a-lifetime exeption.
