How can I jump from one frame to the next? Screenshot purposes

Hi all!

Can someone please advise me as to how I can jump from one single frame to the next? I am using VLC player, but perhaps I need something else?

I'm ultimately trying to compare scenes from a movie and the change is so subtle that I literally need two consecutive frames and take screenshots. Please help, its for a uni assignment!

Its actually a backup I made from my 'Fight Club' dvd, so its in a VIDEO_TS folder.

I think quicktime can open that can't it? just press left and right to navigate through each frame, its fast at going forwards but quite slow in reverse,

option (apple logo button) + shift + 3 gives you a screen shot of the desktop, hope that helps
