I was wondering how can I have a live mirror of my iPhone's screen on my Mac. I know there is reflector but I'm looking for something for free since I won't be using this much, in fact, it is going to be only once.

Also reflector allows you to do wireless, while it is a plus, it is not necessary for me to be able to do it wirelessly.

I am not familiar with Airplay, does airplay allow you to do this? if not, what does it allow you to do then? And what does Apple use in their keynotes to demo iPhone features? I notice that they have the iPhone actually connected.

There are 3rd party apps that will do this. Search the App Store.

Reflector is one of your best options. I'm not aware of any free alternatives to mirror. Reflector does this through AirPlay: it mimics an AppleTV, since OS X doesn't "receive" AirPlay.

With iOS 8 and Yosemite you'll be able to plug your iPhone to your Mac and record its screen through QuickTime, but you'd have to wait until they're released.

That sounds perfect to what I want. Where did you see that feature?

I'd definitely endorse Reflector. I use it to show things on my ipad to a class via a Mac that's plugged into a projector (or at least will until I can get hold of a video adaptor!)
