i can't get to the files that way, only bad alias's.... I need a way to mount the whole backup image (or bundle) from a machine that no longer exists, and getting help from Apple is not possible (based on the people I have spoken to).

Time Machine (TM) does not make a backup image per se, it has a folder called Backups.backupdb with the user folder (called Kalle in that image) inside and the incremental backup folders inside that.

As far as I remember, you can access those folders "2008-11-23-...." without problems, unless that TM is corrupted.

I don't know where the files are based on the backup dates, and picking through the folders leads to aliases sometimes, and sometimes the files.
