How can I permanantly disable "Smart Mailboxes"?

I profoundlly hate the complicated and infuriating "smart mailboxes" feature of Mavericks and would like to disable it so that I just have a simple and idiotproof Inbox, Sent Mail and Trash box like I did in Tiger. Is there anyway to get rid of smart mailboxes? Or will I have to start using a third party mail application? Thanks

Not remember Mavericks, but in Yosemite you can select the smart mailbox, then from the main menu choose Mailbox/Delete mailbox.... I guess in 10.9 is the same. Repeat for all smart mailboxes
