I want to put music from my macbook to my phone. I installed Android File Transfer but it doesn't work. It just says please connect Android device via usb.

So is there any method that actually works? My phone has a micro SD card but it won't fit in the macbook. As popular as Androids are I figured there was a way to do this by now.

The methods probably vary depending on which phone you have, but I'll tell you how I put music on my Xperia Z1 compact running Android 4.4.4

With the micro SD card in my phone, I go to

Settings > Wireless & Networks > Xperia Connectivity > USB Connectivity > USB connection mode

and choose "Mass storage mode (MSC)". I make sure that above, the "Install software" box is unchecked, because if it is checked my phone will attempt to install non-Mac software on my MacBook.

Once I've activated Mass storage mode, if I plug the phone into my Mac via USB, the micro SD card mounts on my Mac. I have a folder called "music" on my micro SD card and I drag music files in there.

Have you tried DoubleTwist? It's an extra software but so far it has been working with android devices running 4.0+. Works better than using the odd android file transfer program at least for just syncing music.

I dont know if you use iTunes but I use iSyncr, from the google play store.
