My iPhone 3G died last night. Not sure how or why other than it went to sleep and has since been non-responsive. So then I had the bright idea to take the SIM out and put it in my 1st gen iPhone. Not surprisingly it didn't work. iTunes prompted me to update the software, which I did, and is probably where it all started to go wrong. Once I updated the software, the phone was stuck in that famous "Please connect to iTunes" screen. All I wanted to be able to do was use it as an iPod. I have already put my SIM in another random cell phone that I had laying around the house, but now, I can't even use the old 1st gen as an iPod!! How can I remedy this? I've already done the restore and that was no help.

Thanks guys I'll try that..I just plugged it back in and Itunes is prompting me to restore from a previous backup.. If this doesn't work, I'll definitely try Blackrain
