Lately (in iOS 15.x ?) I seem to be getting daily imessage “texts” from Facebook (supposedly?) with friend suggestions. It is annoying and although I have unlimited text it is a waste of my imessage threads space and time. I have done all the suggested things in facebook to turn off notifications, and no notifications allowed to email, and sms ect. I have turned off the “people you know” in settings privacy and such but still these “suggested friends” texts appear from a website that is allegedly Facebook but I suppose it could be spam as I am getting other such spams with “500 dollar Costco or other store” gift cards and like (not many and pretty random but obviously my phone/imessage address has gotten some kind of notice amongst spammers. I even have turned off all callers not I contacts so I get no spam calls which get sent to my voicemail (but those damn car warrenty ones still leave message LOL).

So what I wonder is this spam? Or is facebook in spite of turning off all areas for notifications to my imessage and email still getting through. It is not a phone number but says from Facebook and ends with a link to a alleged potential friend which I never click in case it is spam just trying to get info. But it comes several times a day, the obvious minor spam (like free gift cards ect) are very sporadic and random. This is much more regular and again several times a day.

Just wondering if any others see this? Is it Facebook? If so any other ways to stop (reply STOP was one suggestion to facebook texts). Or is it a very persistent spammer??? I maintain a pretty private (in as much is possible) facebook account. But this seems to just have happened with the advent of iOS 15 in spite of all the security features to block apps like Facebook

Any ideas, others experiencing this and how to stop would be most appreciated. Thanks have a great day

I didn't even know Facebook could send messages, looking at their support page it appears in a very strange section.

  1. Click
    account
in the top right of Facebook.
  2. Select Settings & Privacy, then click Settings.
  3. Click Mobile in the left menu.
If you've already looked in here and its turned off it could potentially be spam I guess.

Yeah if you leave on you can choose notifications on screen, or in email or in sms text. They were never on by default so maybe spam is what I am seeing although it is more orderly and daily compared to other random spam I get
