How can I stop new desktop icons appearing/aligning under the dock?

This is a very annoying "feature" of Panther. I don't remember it happening with Jaguar - correct me if I am wrong.

Another weird thing that happens is automatically created icons on the desktop, are piling on top of each other in the bottom right corner.

both these are incredibly bad oversights by apple engineers.

maybe its your install of panther or some haxie or app.
For me, icons line themselves up nicely, then when it runs out of room it stacks itself up on top of the icon in the upper right corner.

have you checked the options for 'sort by...'

if you have it set to sort by name they should just all fall into place and stay there.

and what exactly do you mean by icons 'under' the dock? could you post a pic?
