How can I switch from a 2 year contract to a NEXT plan?

I waited an hour or so at an AT&T store and they told me they couldnt do anything since i got the phone from Apple. Then I called Apple and they told me to go back to AT&T...what am I supposed to do here?! Thanks for any advice!

You will have to return the phone and rebuy it with the Next plan, if that's even possible. AT&T is right, you bought it from Apple. They have to do the return.
