I got an iPhone 3G and it's amazing. It came with 2.0.1 but, at least in the first day, 3G service has been amazing. Unlike what everyone on here is saying my 3G hasn't even DIPPED below 3 bars, and is usually on 5. Call quality is excellent but the internet is mediocre, maybe my standards are too high since I've only used the browser on WiFi, and maybe those internet speeds are good for 3G.

My iPhone model number is MB048LL.

Also, should I upgrade to 2.0.2 or just keep 2.0.1 if everything's working?

Also i got mine yesterday and 2.0.1 was working great but i upgraded to 2.0.2 and its still working great so go for it. I have had no problems and have had it in my hand for 20 out of 24 hours.

It's digits 3-4-5 of your 11-digit serial number. The first two are the factory ID of which it was made in, and the next three are date info. I don't know what the rest of the numbers are for.

Example: xx831xxxxxx - the 8 means 2008, and the 31 is what week of 2008 that it was made in.

THIS tool is pretty cool too. Its been linked a lot around here.

I don't think I trust that link 100%, it said my iPhone 3G 16GB was made July 29, 2008 when in fact I got it on July 21st, 8 days before it was made. Maybe thats why I am having all the troubles, I got a premmy!!!!

With all of those people standing in line, Steve Jobs got too excited and shipped a bunch of phones before they were finished being made. Ooops!

"Sir! We haven't finished adding all of the 3G chip ... ... oh well. Maybe they can fix it with a software update."

the 29 is the week it was made not the day, the 29th week of the year. It could have been made in any day of that week:)

Thank you. :)

Mine says 826, so it was made in the 26th week of 1998! :D

(Mine was made between June 23,28 of 2008 even though I didn't buy it until August 5 ? didn't they release the phone on July 11, and report "sold out" ????)

According to this website http://www.onlineconversion.com/day_week_number.htm there are 2 different "week numbers" (ISO - and European). Depending on which one Apple is using in the SN's mine was either manufactured the week I actually got it or the week before I got it. Neither of which are posssible considering shipping both from China->US then to my local ATT store.

I went to the web site and put in my S/N data. According to it my phone was made between 7/20/08 and 7/27/08, I bought my phone on the 7/21/08:confused:.
my S/n 87829######

Did I do something wrong? or are we interpreting the S/N information incorrectly?

According to the calendar linked in #9, week 29 starts on July 13, not 20. I believe the discrepancy comes from the fact that the first week of January does not start on Sunday. If you exclude that week from the week count, then week 29 would start on July 20.

Mine's 829 (2008 week #29), and I bought it on July 19. :)
