Hey everyone. Im hearing the best way to pick up an iphone at the apple store is to buy it online in the apple store app and reserve a time to go pick it up. How can i do that while trading in my phone physically at the store? I dont want to mail it anywhere.

I keep getting mixed replies regarding this. Should i choose that i do, or do not have a trade in when buying in the apple store app? Ive heard that if u choose that u dont, u can trade it in at the store when u go pick the device up. But wouldnt i have already paid full price for the device in the app? Super confusing.

Hmmm I think when you do a online order for in store pick up and selected yes for the trade in, I believe you can trade in at the store. Honestly I haven’t tried this. I know that if you did the online order for home delivery then you need to mail it in as you can’t take it to the store For trade in as the system will show that there is a mail it kit being mailed for that web order.

However, to play it safe, just select no. Then after you pick up your phone, let the store employee know that you would like to do a trade in and get the trade in value credited back. Normally, once you go through the process their device only gives the option for a gift card, but you just need to let them know that you would like to have it credited back to the card you used. It will require the managers override for this.

i did this for the Apple Watch. I selected no for the trade in option on the Apple store app. I picked it up, later that day took the watch S4 to the store, traded in and got the trade in value debited to my debit card, even though I used the credit card for he purchase. Then I actually paid toff that race in value toward my balance on that credit card.

I ordered my iPhone 11 Pro Max on line for pick up the same day and also selected iPhone trade in. When I picked up my phone at the Apple store and traded in my iPhone XS Max, Apple immediately credited my credit card for the $600 value. Straight forward process.

When I purchased my Iphone 11 Pro, I bought online and checked the box "no trade in". I brought my Iphone 10 into the Apple Store when I picked up the Iphone 11 Pro. They gave me a credit right at Apple Store when I picked up the Iphone 11 pro. The credit was applied to my credit card and was not taken off the phone itself. Basically I was charged full amount for the Iphone 11 Pro when I picked it up, but then they credited me on the same credit card for the trade in amount of the Iphone 10. Very easy to do.

Thank you for the replies everyone i appreciate it. Does anyone know if this works while doing iphone payments?

Walk in with it and go directly to a Apple employee and tell them you want to trade it in. They’ll take it from there.

As @Shadowbech said select no that you do not have a trade in, otherwise you will generate a return kit in the mail. After you pay in full just bring your phone in to the store and let them know you have a device to trade in so they can inspect and credit you there on the spot rather than mail in....Associate at the Apple store told me this was the best method bc most stores were not doing in store trade-ins once you selected 'Yes' in the app...

No, it has to be bought outright, otherwise it states you will get a gift card...Not sure what amount you would get tho...

although i could buy it outright, i'd like to do the iphone payments option to save some money from credit card interest if possible. Has anyone gotten a phone in the store, traded theirs in at the store and chosen iphone payments?

Use the Apple store App on your iPhone. Indicate that you want to trade in existing phone. Choose Activate the new phone. Select Apple Payments as the payment source. Choose Apple Care or not. Go through the Citizens approval process. Check out and choose in store pickup. Your trade in value will automatically be applied and the overall purchase price will be lowered by the amount of the trade in. Your monthly payments based on 24 months will reflect the trade in.

Thank you very very much. i really appreciate the detailed reply! Would this also allow me to give them the trade in at the store instead of mailing it in?

Yes, but only if you’ve indicated in-store pick up. If you choose ship to you for the new phone, you must then mail back the old phone.

There is no guarantee. You could go though the ordering process and have the app tell you that none are available for in store pick up. Ordering in the morning will increase your chances for store pickup.

I’m going to do this in the future rather than through the mail. I know you’re not referencing the iUP, but I got my trade in kit (finally, after a screw up on Apple's part with the first kit) on 9/28, and I dropped it off to Fedex on 9/29 (I received my new iPhone on 9/20). On 9/30, I got an email saying that my trade in had been cancelled because they hadn't received my old phone in time, and my old phone would be returned to me. I called Apple, and they're looking into it.

Anyway, I subsequently decided to return my new 11 Pro Max after I got that email because I'm not going to risk it being denied the trade in and being stuck with two iPhones. I bought an unlocked Pro Max at full price from the Apple Store, and I'll see if Apple will resell it to me under the iUP (they did this last year for me) when I get the old phone back, and trade it in in the store. If Apple doesn't accommodate me, I'll return this Pro Max, rinse and repeat. It's a bit annoying.

I don't recall any of this being that hard in the past but it's getting confusing and difficult.

I ordered mine online used credit card and paid for the whole thing. Had an appointment for in store pickup. I took my X in and told the employee I wanted to trade it in. He basically reversed charges on my cc and I bought it again with the trade in and some gc's I had. Walked out with brand new Iphone Pro 11 midnight green for around 467.00.
