How can I unlocked the 4s

Yes if you are on ATT you are SOL. If you are on Verizon or Sprint they will unlock the GSM part if you are a good customer in good standings after I think 90 days or maybe sooner. You would have to check with them.

Only way in the US to get a truly unlocked phone is to buy it through Apple at full price. Apple said they would sell unlocked iPhone sometime in November.
 
Would be cool if another carrier could unlock an AT&T phone. Isn't the 4S basically the same phone? When Apple sells them do they have a Sprint, AT&T and a Verizon pile?

Yes, they have separate inventories for each carrier. The phones are physically the same, but there are apparently configuration differences (plus of course installing the appropriate SIM for each carrier).

so even with the verizon unlock, you can't use ATT or Tmobile sims right? only for foreign sims?
 
you could buy a 4S from the UK as they come factory unlocked
