I am running OS 3.1.2 on my 3GS that I jail broke with Black rain last october. An increashing number of aps are requring more recent firmware updates. I woild like to upgragde to the most recent stable and jailbrakable verson, the easiest way possible without bricking my device. My device has the old bootrom. The header on my Cydia homepage says" this device has SHSHs on file for 3.1.2 through 4.0.1. However, the readme file for tiny umbrella states:
" Apple stopped signing firmware 3.1.2 SHSH requests WAY back on Feb 04, 2010. What this means is that if you did not
1. jailbreak your device before then AND run Cydia AND allow Cydia to 'Make your life easier'
or
2. Use Umbrella to save your SHSH for 3.1.2 BEFORE Feb 04, 2010,
YOU cannot restore your device to 3.1.2 no matter what."
I do not recall seeing a "make my life easier" button or option.
Is there a repository of various OS/iOS other than iTunes to upgrade my device? Is there a site that details a easy to follow step by step proceedure. Or, better yet, a one step process?
