How come I deleted songs in iTunes but they are still on my computer?

Hello,

I deleted a bunch of stuff from iTunes but it's still on my computer, why is this?

If you're wondering, yes I did select "move to trash" and then emptied my trash...and mysteriously the files are still here? I'm dying of frustration over here...please help....

Do you have 'Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library' checked in prefs > advanced ?

Yes I do have that box checked. Should I uncheck it?

What exactly is "still here" ? The songs in iTunes, or the files themselves ?

If it is the files, where do you see them ?

It is a two step process--you are asked if you want to delete the files from your hard drive. If you don't choose to delete them, then they remain--all that is deleted it the entry in the iTunes database.
