ok so i have noticed that my data usage drops in increments, for example if i just watched a youtube video i check my data to see what is up to, its at say 245 mb then i watch another one, check it and it drops to 187mb?

how is this possible

i know for a fact that it had breached the 200 mark twice it has breached 200 and now twice it has dropped to about 180, could this be a software issue? or am i getting free extra data?

It must be a software issue. I've not seen any posts on this problem (if there's anything on fluctuatons that is a software issue it is on the battery meter). You might do a restore, but can't be sure that'll fix it.

You're not getting free data. The carrier charges based on what their own network shows as your usage, not what your phone says.

well one coukd hope haha

bah i dont like restoring takes way to long but maybe i wll have to cause my camera has problems too, the screen flickers when i just let it focus or sit there with the camera app open

I notice that if I turn my iPhone off, then turn it back on, the data meter will decrease. Kind of odd, but it does.

I think you did not completely understand what he was saying.

He is checking the usage meter in the Settings menu on the phone, not a billing site for his carrier. I assume he has the unlimited plan.

Yes, I am aware. I am saying that the phone's log is inaccurate, but it doesn't matter when it comes to billing.

I knew what you were saying. Still, the data uage shouldn't be fluctuating and surely should not be going down. Something's up and I don't think I've ever seen anyone post this issue before.

you assumed wrong i have no need for such an exspensive plan and not to mention i dont hink Rogers has an "unlimited data" plan

Whoops, sorry. Looks like I misinterpreted your post AND I assumed wrong. :(

Unfortunately, in the USA, we are forced into the unlimited plan. But I think it's okay for me. I used 1.4GB last month! I don't know how I managed that one....

Hey it's still better then the Crackberry forums, all they talk about is when the next Blackberry is coming out, and which is better Curve Vs Bold Vs Iphone:p

The carriers that I use (Swisscom and AT&T) both have tools available online to track your data usage by showing you the remaining balance for the month. It would probably be worth looking into that on Rogers as well. I've never gone over my 500mb limit with either carrier, so it's not a huge issue, but it's something worth following to make sure that you don't get killed with the overage charges.

So this is different... how?
