How come watching videos on smartwatch a thing?

I've been thinking of getting an apple watch and was surprised to hear that in order to watch yt you need a 3rd party app, and there's no other feature to watch videos. was thinking maybe even the possibility to stream from the iphone to the apple watch, does something like that exist or is it even possible?

Doing audio and video uses a lot of CPU power which would in turn drain the battery. If you could, you could not do it for long as the battery is small. Maybe with the new Ultra . . . . .
