I know you can browse through Console, but I think it only saves 6 months back.

Is there another option besides console? I hadn't used time machine before the time I was looking for. I was looking for the first half of 2010 on the computer.

I have noticed strange files depending the date/times for folders and files in them, but I'm just figuring was going on.

1) If a machine is important to you, take your data all off, wipe the HD, then give it to someone and then when you get it back re-wipe it and put your stuff back (What I used to do, now I just have a spare PowerBook G4 that I lend out as it doesnt have anything important on it)
2) If its that far gone you probably cant, as even Console doesnt log everything they do. You can either ask, try and use data recovery to find their stuff (Both long shots if its something dodgy), or just start again.
