There're many IM applications can stay you connected and show online/away in your friends' list, and send the message to Apple's push server, to let you use this IMs as in the "background"?

Am I guessing correct?

For those third-party apps e.g. IM+ Meebo Beejive.. They are all using third party server themselves to stay connect.

So how do AIM for iPhone do this, as the first party app, does he just send the message to Apple or use its server to sign-on for you to be shown "online"?

Can anyone give some information, thx?
