How do capture video off my screen?

Hi,

I'm developing a little web app and I need to make some videos (Apple style) to explain some of the features. What I need to do is to record what I do in safari to a video file.

Later on I'll edit it and convert it to flash video but I need some video to work with.

Do you guys know of any good apps for this purpose? It would be sweet if it wasn't too basic. For example I'd like the capured area to follow the movement of the cursor so that I don't get the entire screen or window in the video.

I'd be extremely graitful for any tips.

Well if you're willing to pay and want to go all out there's Adobe Captivate (http://www.adobe.com/products/captivate/).

Can also check out Copernicus at http://www.pure-mac.com/screen.html which is freeware, but I've never used.

Not the most viable solution, but you could just hold a video camera in front of your screen.

Seriously though, I used a program for this a while ago but I can't remember what it was. I'll see if i can find it. In the mean time try angelwatt's suggestion.

Thanks for all the replies. I've been looking at links and some how found this neat little app called igrabit. It lets you set the area to be recorded, it follows the mouse and allows you to select quality frame rate and codec. So far so good.
